EXIAR participates in fifth Astrakhan Region Innovation Forum

The fifth annual Astrakhan Region Innovation Forum took place on 22–25 April 2014 in the city of Astrakhan. The event was organised by the Ministry of Economic Development of Astrakhan Region.

The forum provides a communication platform for research leaders and representatives of government and the business community to clarify priorities for the region's innovation development, as well as to discuss solutions for applying the best new innovations for commercial, management and social benefit. The forum was highly appraised by participants and guests alike in 2013. Over 7,000 people participated in forum events, including 115 experts.

The forum was opened by Alexander Zhilkin, Governor of Astrakhan Region.

The forum included a range of events focusing on different themes. Topics covered included the potential for innovative development across Russia and the provision of resources to various regions. In addition, a session entitled 'Business Caspian' took place, featuring the International Business Cooperation Council for Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the Caspian Sea region. A Russian Startup Tour meeting was also held as part of a larger programme to support and develop entrepreneurship in technology across Russia, as well as an exhibition showcasing innovative projects.

Boris Igoshin, Regional Development Director at EXIAR, took part in a round table discussion on increasing cooperation between businesses based in Russia, the Caspian Sea Region and Iran. In his presentation, Boris provided an overview of the Agency's activities, and also spoke in detail about insurance products available to exporters. The discussion also addressed questions related to conducting business in Iran, the specifics of financing deals with Iranian partners, the logistics of exporting and importing to Iran, and customs processing of Iranian goods.

The forum was attended by a wide range of participants, including representatives of regional legislative and executive bodies, local government leaders, senior figures from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, representatives from the Caspian Sea Region and regional business support organisations, research leaders, executives from innovative manufacturing companies, specialists from innovation and investment funds, representatives of financial and credit organisations, and consulting companies.

The Russian Agency for Export Credit and Investment Insurance (EXIAR) was established in 2011 as an open joint-stock company. EXIAR’s mission is to support Russian high-tech exports by insuring export credits against commercial and political risks, as well as Russian investments abroad against political risks. Vnesheconombank is the sole shareholder of EXIAR. The agency's charter capital is RUB 30 billion.
